Another new area brewery is opening next month, this time in Waynesville where Boojum Brewing will operate from two locations.
Boojum will begin making beer in November at its production site at 375 Dayton Road in Waynesville and will offer tours and tastings there. Boojum will also open a pub and restaurant in downtown Waynesville at 50 N. Main St., said co-owner Kelsie Baker. She is partnered in Boojum with her brother, Ben, who will be brewer.
Boojum is the fourth brewery in Waynesville following Frog Level Brewing in 2011, and in 2012, Bearwaters Brewing in 2012 and Tipping Point. In 1993, the long-gone Smoky Mountain Brewery opened in Waynesville as the area’s first modern-day brewery, but it soon faded from the scene as Highland Brewing and others debuted in Asheville.
Boojum has already been making appearances at local beer festivals with brews created on its small pilot system, Kelsie Baker said. It will next be featured at the Tryon Beer Fest, Nov. 8 in Tryon. The Bakers expect to begin brewing on their 15 barrel main system in three to four weeks, she said.
