Bowditch & Dewey launches craft brewing practice group

The launch of the craft brewing practice area comes as Bowditch & Dewey also expands its presence in Boston. Lawyers from all three of the firm’s offices in Worcester, Framingham and Boston will be involved in the new push, said James Hanrahan, managing partner of Bowditch & Dewey.
“In having those types of conversations, a number of people had mentioned they had worked with craft beer companies," Hanrahan said.
"And everyone in the world is a fan of craft beer. It engendered an energetic conversation."
Robert Young, a Bowditch & Dewey attorney who is heading up the practice and splits his time between the firm’s Framingham and Boston offices, said that the craft beer industry is thriving and a genuine driver of economic growth. Young said brewers can benefit from help with business planning, employment, and real estate issues. Brewers can also face environmental issues due to the waste and wastewater that brewing creates, he said. The firm also aims to help small brewers make inroads with distributors.
