If that’s the case, Phoenix has a long way to go before it can cultivate such a vibe. Ten breweries call Phoenix home, but they’re spread out throughout the nation’s sixth-largest city. Industry leaders and public officials say developing a beer culture downtown will attract more residents and tourists — and create an economic boost. Supporters say they’ve made progress in the city’s urban core: Two craft breweries are under construction downtown. Leaders at the Arizona Craft Brewers Guild hope to take advantage of recent interest in infill development and encourage developers to bring more breweries to the area. Rob Fullmer, executive director of the organization, also has met with City Council members, as well as tourism and convention leaders, to develop a plan to attract small craft breweries to the area. “It’s really sort of overcoming the physical challenges that we have here in Phoenix,” Fullmer said.
