MARYVILLE (WATE) – The first ever, Hops in the Hills is in Downtown Maryville this weekend.

The two day festival, part of the Summer on Broadway celebration will take place at 121 West Broadway Avenue. Friday there will be a brew crawl, provided by Knox Brew Tours. Tickets are $10. General admission tickets on Saturday are $40. “The community and beer aficionados will have the opportunity to experience the incredible craft brews that are right in our own backyard,” said Kim Mitchell, director of tourism operations for Blount Partnership. “In 2013, Tennessee ranked 23rd in the nation with craft breweries. We know East Tennesseans, along with residents of the surrounding states, share an affinity for craft beer, and we’re excited to be able to provide an avenue for them to make memories while enjoying quality brews.”

Hops and The Hills will feature several local and regional craft breweries. Mitchell said she hopes the festival will become a yearly event.

On Saturday, those attending the festival will also be able to attend two seminars, led by Trent Gillar […]

Beer lovers, rejoice: Craft Beer Tour returns

(Photo: Jason Wachter, jwachter@stcloudtimes.com) The St. Cloud Craft Beer Tour is expecting a sellout Saturday at the River’s Edge Convention Center.

And the anticipated 2,500 attendees will have a record number of options at the third annual event.

Organizer Christian Medford said 57 breweries will be represented — including 23 Minnesota breweries — with more than 175 beers available to sample. The tour, which has limited general admission tickets still available, runs from 2-5 p.m.

"I can guarantee there will be something there you have never tried before," Medford said. "It’s like going to a liquor store and just opening and sampling whatever you want. It’s truly an experience."

Last year, 43 breweries were present and about 2,200 people attended . The inaugural event in 2013 had 29 participating breweries with about 1,200 attendees.

Many of the breweries in 2015 are planning to offer experimental specialties. Breweries use beer tours as a way to test potential new products."Craft beer geeks are just like foodies," Medford said. "The look, the feel, the flavor and the tones that are in a beer are all taken into consideration."St. Cloud’s Lupine Brewing Co. will debut a vanilla cranberry oatmeal stout and a pale ale at the event.Lupine, which […]

Small cups quenched the thirst of thousands of beer lovers Saturday at the St. Cloud Craft Beer Tour.

Organizers say they prepared more than 3,000 mini plastic mugs for the annual event, which was held at the River’s Edge Convention Center. Less than an hour after the doors opened for general admission, the promotional cups were gone.

The festivities kicked off at 2 p.m., but Don Knoll and Michelle Wright of St. Cloud got in an hour early after winning a VIP pass through a drawing at a local restaurant. Draining his mug of a habanero porter from Northwoods Brewing Co., Knoll said selection is what makes the event so popular.

"You just get a sample — a couple ounces of each, but to try more than a hundred beers lets you see what you like and don’t like," he said.

Nearly 60 breweries were represented at the event — including 23 Minnesota breweries — with more than 175 beers available to sample. Many of the breweries offered experimental specialties this year. That includes St. Cloud-based Lupine Brewing Co., which debuted a vanilla cranberry oatmeal stout at the event."It’s an opportunity to see what customers like so we can bring more […]

There’s a brotherhood brewing in the Inland Empire — and everyone’s invited to join.

“The Inland Empire is becoming ‘the place’ for craft breweries,” said Julie McAleer, head of Tap Room and Special Events for Dale Bros Craft Brewery and Tasting Room. “People are learning that craft breweries are not the leave-your-wife-and-kids-home-and-go-get-drunk. Most craft breweries were started by families, couples who have day jobs. More people are drinking for flavor.”To that end, Dale Bros wants beer lovers and their family to come and celebrate its 12-year anniversary at its annual Brews & Bros Craft Beer Festival on Jan. 24 at Cable Airport in Upland. The event is slated to host about 30 area micro breweries from Redland’s Hangar 24 to Claremont Craft […]
