Jolly Pumpkin Rojzilla Michigan Soure Biere label BeerPulse Liquorscan Press Release:

(Dexter, MI) – Jolly Pumpkin Ales quintessential beer – La Roja – may be hard to find, but two new specialty brews will hit the marketplace in limited quantities this month and are sure to quench the thirst of sour beer lovers around America. Rojzilla and La Roja du Kriek will be distributed in Michigan and 34 other states during the brand’s “April Showers Bring Jolly Pumpkin Sours” campaign.

La Roja (7.2% ABV | 25 IBU) was the second beer to be released by Jolly Pumpkin, after opening in 2004. This artisan red ale, brewed in the Flanders tradition, is deep amber in color with earthy caramel, spice and sour fruit notes that are developed through natural barrel aging.

Flanders ales are fermented with usual brewer’s yeast in an unfiltered and unpasteurized fashion, then placed into oak barrels to age and mature. The mature beer is then blended with younger beer, to adjust the taste for consistency. The name comes from the usual color of […]

Pittsburgh Craft Beer Week once again will be a collaborative affair.

Area brewers, distributors and restaurant and bar owners are working together to promote good beer with 300-plus events from April 17 though April 26.

At some, you’ll have a chance to taste “collaboration beers” that teams of brewers brewed together.

The creativity and fun in these brews capture the essence of the week, an overview of which was laid out at the annual media day at Penn Brewery yesterday. Not all of the beers were ready to be sampled, but here’s what is in the tanks:• King Crimson brewed by Church Brew Works with Draai Laag and Eleventh Hour. Described as “a hoppy Brett” [sour, from the presence of two types of Brettanomyces] red ale with 7 percent alcohol by volume.• Old GUYSer brewed by Penn Brewery with […]

New craft beer: Breakside releases Guava IRA today

(United Guava Council) Guava IRA Release Party

5-8 p.m. Thursday March 19, Bridgetown Beerhouse, 915 N Shaver St.

Breakside’s draft-only Guava IRA sounds like a fascinating beer: "This special release combines two things that we love to use in the brewery: Hops and Fruit. Originally a commemorative beer designed by our assistant brewers for our 4th anniversary, this is a hoppy Red Ale accentuated with the tropical notes of Guava fruit. Our head brewers were so impressed with this beer that they decided to scale up the recipe so that a wider audience could try it.The resinous, citric notes of Simcoe hops meld with some big juicy fruit character from Australian Galaxy hops and a rich Guava character from the fruit itself. A light use of caramel malt gives this beer some balancing sweetness to counter the hop bitterness and light acidity." 7 percent, 65 IBU. Malts: Two Row, British Munich, Crystal 70L. Hops: Cascade, Simcoe and Galaxy with guava added.

Also on Tap:
Safeword Triple IPA
Eurotrash IPL IPA Lunch break ISA
