(Press Release)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. —Two Rhode Island treasures have teamed up to release a new limited edition seasonal treat, Allie’s Double Chocolate Porter. A malty blend of Narragansett’s classic Porter combined with rich cocoa flavoring inspired by Allie’s famous old fashioned double chocolate donuts, this new beer offers an unmistakably delicious taste of the Ocean State. Allie’s Double Chocolate Porter is the latest beer in Narragansett Beer’s “Hi Neighbor Mash-Up” series. (Photo courtesy Narragansett Beer) Narragansett Allie’s Double Chocolate Porter marks the third installment in ‘Gansett’s “Hi Neighbor Mash-Up” series, which partners iconic Rhode Island institutions with Narragansett to create unique seasonal beers celebrating the region. When Frederick Alvin “Allie” Briggs opened Allie’s Donuts in the summer of ’68, he shared Narragansett’s philosophy of neighborliness, quality and determination – traits that the Briggs family still upholds today in their friendly hometown shop open 7 days a week. At Allie’s, a donut is more than just a donut, it’s a way of bringing joy to Rhode Islanders through every delectable bite.

Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale returns for third season

Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale BeerPulse Press Release:

(Lexington, KY) – Award-winning Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale will soon hit the market for the third consecutive year, signaling the fall season just around the corner and conjuring up images of falling leaves and football. The beloved beer was the first seasonal brew launched by Alltech Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co. (http://www.kentuckyale.com/) in its barrel-aged seasonal series and won a gold medal at the 2014 World Beer Championships, with a score of 94 out of 100. It will slowly pour into the market this week, available on tap and in bottles.

Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale is a barrel-aged ale brewed with Kentucky-sourced pumpkin, richly spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. As the ale ages in fresh bourbon barrels, it picks up the sweetness of caramel and vanilla from the barrel, complementing its spicier base. The beer boasts a robust 10 percent alcohol by volume (ABV).

“Seasonal beers are already extremely popular amongst craft beer fans. Pumpkin brews, like our Kentucky Pumpkin Barrel Ale, tend to be some of the […]

Terrapin Rye Cubed Triple Rye IPA returns to Monster Beer Tour series

Terrapin Rye Cubed label Press Release:

(Athens, GA) – Terrapin Beer Co.’s eccentric brewers plead ‘temporary insanity’ in regards to the release of the next Monster in the series. Rye Cubed Triple Rye IPA fills the summer slot of Terrapin’s Monster Beer Tour of high-gravity seasonal beers. This Monster, brought to life from the DNA of its ancestors, has a pedigree that is 100% Terrapin.

Known for their love of hops and rye but not for their subtlety, Terrapin’s mad scientists were successful in this experiment before with Rye Squared, the Monster retired in 2011. With Rye Cubed, they weren’t content to stop at twice and pushed the formula threefold. The outcome is three times the rye spiciness, rich caramel malt backbone, and hoppy bite than The Original, Rye Pale Ale.

From the label:
Rye beers have been a part of our brewing arsenal from day one. “Rye”, “Rye Squared” and now “Rye Cubed” Triple Rye IPA completes this trilogy of brewing excellence.

Eight local craft beers to try this spring

Mystery Brewing prepares growlers at their brew house in Hillsborough. Carolina Brewing Company Winter Porter The cold days of winter are finally over! The change of seasons often inspires a change in your beer palate. Different beer styles and flavors instill a moment in time just right for that season yet seemingly inappropriate during another. Think of a pumpkin beer in April or a light lemony witbier in November. The beers can taste great but the mindset that pumpkins are for fall and lemony fresh is for spring throws your seasonal palate all out of whack. Does it make it wrong to drink them? Absolutely not! There are no “rules” per se for craft beer, especially as the seasons and styles are getting skewed. Mystery Brewing Company’s philosophy is that they ONLY brew seasonal beers on the premise that what people drink depends on the time of the year, weather, etc. We could just list their inventory of spring beers and be done with this article but there are other great beers out there!

We […]

10 spring craft beers that will make you hate winter

It is entirely too wintry for your spring beer, craft beer brewers.

We’re aware that this is kind of a low point in the beer season. The Treasury Department’s Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau notes that the 14 million or so barrels the U.S. beer industry produces in February is a far cry from the 17 million to 18 million it brews during the peak months from June through August. We also know that craft beer just loves using seasonal beers to fill that gap. The Brewers Association craft beer industry group all too proudly points out that the sale of seasonal beer variety packs jumped 21% by volume in 2014.

We’ll also begrudgingly admit that, yes, it does make sense to release your seasonal beers early so they aren’t lingering on shelves and taps by the time the next season hits. Fine. But when large swaths of the country look like Hoth , beer drinkers who’ve spent weeks shoveling out their cars and finding ways to distract their kids on myriad snow days don’t want to be reminded of a season that may not come. Observe: Dear brewers, I’ll drink your Spring Ale when you haul away this […]

5 Best Beer Gifts to Give Craft Beer Lovers for Christmas in 2014

PORTLAND, Ore. ( MainStreet ) – When you’re putting together a holiday shopping list for a beer lover beer, it starts with beer and ends with just about anything else.

We’ve already provided some suggestions for holiday beer presents this year. We’ve espoused the virtues of the varied and relatively inexpensive holiday variety pack and we’ve offered enough holiday beer picks over the past three years to put together the best holiday beer case any recipient could ask for.

The only problem is that unless you’ve traveled across the country and waited in line for a pack of The Alchemist’s Heady Topper, a pint (or growler) of Russian River Brewing’s Pliny The Younger, or a bottle of Cigar City’s Hunaphu’s Imperial Stout, your beer presents aren’t going to amount to much other than a nice little drinking session. Some of the more potent picks may linger in the cellar for a year or so, but beer’s seasonal cheer is fleeting.

Stone Smoked Porter w/ Chocolate & Orange Peel! "We decided early on that we wouldn’t do seasonal beers for the sake of doing seasonal beers. Summer ales and winter lagers certainly have a ring to them. Big-beer focus groups prove consumers get a kick out of them, and macrobrew marketing analyses suggest they sell well. But for us, beer comes first, much as Stone Smoked Porter came first. Actually, it came second — oddly enough, in the form of a seasonal. Our co-founder and original brewmaster, Steve Wagner, thought it would be an innovative, warming creation suited for winter…and it was. This version, released in the literally gray area separating sunshine and snowfall, incorporates dark chocolate and orange peel, making for a semisweet, citrus-nuanced porter that comes across like a break-apart chocolate orange enjoyed by a campfire. It’s not a seasonal-it’s just a phenomenal beer, regardless of the time of year. Throw out the calendar and enjoy." Remember if you want to see a particular beer reviewed just leave me a […]
